The UNESCO Chair represents Ukraine at a symposium in Malaysia

From May 15 to 17, 2024, the International Symposium of the Category 2 Institutes and Centres under the auspices of UNESCO in the field of Natural Sciences, co-organised with the Government of Malaysia through the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the Auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC) was held. The symposium brought together UNESCO Category 2 Institutes and Centers in the field of natural sciences. It aimed to create a platform to strengthen coordination and cooperation between Category 2 Centers, promoting the exchange of knowledge, promoting common goals, and implementing collective activities.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2024 – 2033 as the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development. This international symposium was in line with the spirit of the Decade, which was a call for the mobilisation of global science efforts to achieve sustainable development and use science to respond to the complex challenges of our time and ensure a safe and prosperous future for all.

The event was an opportunity for Ukraine to present the achievements and challenges in general for Ukrainian science education in the face of the of the military aggression, to present the UNESCO Category 2 Center “Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” and the UNESCO Chair on Science Education to representatives of many countries from different continents, to outline the losses of research infrastructure of Ukraine from 2022 to 2024, etc.

The event held with the participation of the Assistant Director-General, Head of the Natural Sciences Sector (UNESCO) Lidia Brito; Minister of Education (MOE), President of Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) YB Fadhlina Sidek and other respected representatives of the global UNESCO family.
